Rosette leaves 6–15, narrowly elliptic, 15–35 x 6–10mm. Flower stem 200–40 tall, 1.2–2. across, 2–10-flowered. Stem bracts 3–4. Flowers porrect to semi-erect, 20–25 x 6–7mm, translucent white with green and red-brown lines and chequered patterns. Dorsal sepal point filamentous, 4– long, upcurved. Lateral sepals as broad as hood, shallowly concave, margins incurved, hairy; free points filamentous, 7–1 long, incurved, widely divergent to outcurved. Petals with relatively large basal flanges, 10–12 x 4mm. Labellum oblong-elliptic, 5–5.5 x 1.8–2.2mm, thick, fleshy, green to brown, densely silky hairy, broadly channelled; margins with 10–16 spreading bristles 2– long; basal lobe thick with numerous hairs and short bristles.
Widespread but localised and rarely common, growing in drier forests with a sparse understorey, slopes and ridges on sparsely treed rocky hills, mallee communities and Callitris woodland in freely draining shallow stony soil and sands; less commonly on isolated rocky outcrops.
