Characteristics

Rosette leaves 3–6, ovate to oblong, 6–30 x 5–15mm, dark green, margins entire or wavy. Flower stem 80–30  tall, thin, wiry. Flower erect, 12–15 x 6–8.5mm, dark green and white, apex brown to orange-brown. Dorsal sepal longer than petals, apex tapered, 2–  long. Sinus nearly flat in side view, shallowly curved in front view. Free points filiform, yellowish-brown or orange-brown, 14–2  long, erect, tips sometimes thickened. Petals shortly pointed. Labellum slightly curved, just visible above sinus when set, 7.5–10 x 3.5mm, brown, with broad apical notch, points of notch divergent.

A dainty, colony forming orchid. The stems are wiry and 15 cm high. There are 4-6 leaves. They form a ring around the base of the flower. They are dark green. There is one flower stem. The flower is erect and 12-15 mm long. It lets light through and has bold dark green stripes and brown tips.

Environment

Widespread and common in coastal districts and adjacent low ranges, often growing in dense coastal scrub, especially thickets of coastal teatree in damp to moist sand; also stands of Oyster bay pine in heavier soils; further inland among grass, shrubs, tussocks and litter in heathy forest and woodland in freely draining clay loams and loams. Var.: The labellum in some Tas populations of this orchid is longer than those from the mainland, the apical part extending noticeably higher above the sinus opening.
