Characteristics

Rosette leaves 3–6, ovate, 3–7 x 3–6mm, light green, margins entire. Flower stem 60–30  tall, slender, wiry, 1–7-flowered. Flowers moderately crowded, 1–3 open at once, externally scabrous, 9–11 x 4–5mm, base green and white, apex red-brown. Dorsal sepal shorter than petals, both scabrous. Synsepalum bulging prominently in side view, stepped inwards at top; frontal opening flat with shallow notch. Free points tapered, acuminate, 2–2.  long, not reaching top of hood. Labellum not visible through opening in any position, broadly elliptical, 4–4.5 x 1.5–1.8mm, bright red-brown and white.

Relatively widespread but localised in lowland areas, growing in open forest with shrubby or heathy understorey and heathland, mainly near swamps or on swamp margins in damp to relatively moist grey sandy loam; also in light sandy soil under shrubs and grasstrees.
