Rosette leaves 4–6, oblong to elliptic, 20–100 x 10–30mm, dark green, margins entire or crinkled. Flower stem 100–30 tall, stout, fleshy, smooth. Flower semi-nodding, 28–35 x 11–15mm, translucent white and green, apex brown. Dorsal sepal of similar length to petals, blunt. Lateral sepals loosely embracing galea and separated from petals by wide side gap. Sinus bulging in side view, broadly notched in front view. Free points 10–1 long, usually recurved. Labellum just protruding from sinus when set, 17–22 x 4–5mm, brown, apex twisted to one side.
Very widely distributed and often locally abundant, extending from coastal lowlands to ranges and tablelands and inland areas W of dividing range, growing in wide range of moist sheltered habitats, including coastal scrub, heath, heathy forest, littoral forest, grassy forest, teatree thickets, wet sclerophyll forest, tall forest, open forest and woodland in freely draining to moisture-retentive sands, loams, clays and peat, less commonly in shallow soil on rock shelves and rock plates.
