Rosette often held above ground on a stalk to 10 long; leaves dark green, 10–30 x 10–20mm, margins entire. Flower stem 150–30 tall. Flower erect, 18–25 x 7.5–9mm, green, white and brown, sometimes yellowish-green, tip often abruptly decurved. Dorsal sepal tip finely tapered, 15–2 long. Sinus bulging in side view, broadly U-shaped in front view. Free points filiform, 30–4 long. Labellum sharply curved or kinked, protruding from sinus when set, 12.5–15 x 2.5mm, brown, blunt.
Widespread and locally common from the foothills to subalpine areas, growing among grass and bracken on sheltered slopes, flats and near streams in tall forest, montane forest and grassy subalpine woodland in humus-rich loam; less commonly among rocks in drier sites in sand and clay loam; in Tas often in stony soils derived from dolerite and not uncommon at sea level where sometimes growing in coarse coastal tussock grassland.
