Leaves 4–7 in loose rosette or scattered up stem, 30–80 x 14–25mm, bright green, margins entire. Flower stem 150–30 tall, fleshy, smooth. Flower erect to semi-nodding, 60–80 x 20–24mm, translucent white and dark green, hood curved like sickle, tips of petals and dorsal sepal loosely joined. Dorsal sepal longer than petals, tapered to long point. Lateral sepals loosely embracing galea and separated from petals by wide side gap. Sinus bulging in side view, deeply notched in front view. Free points tapered, 30–4 long, erect or recurved behind hood, tips sometimes forked. Petals ending in long point. Labellum curved, protruding prominently from sinus when set or triggered, 25–34 x 3–4mm, dark green to brown, bluntly pointed.
Widespread and often common ranging from coastal lowlands to high in mountains, growing on sheltered slopes, moist flats, swamps, depressions and stream banks in shady humid situations in open forests, woodlands and teatree thickets in heavy moist to wet clay and peat; also grows in spewy mud in beds of sluggish streams, springs and soaks under thickets of mountain teatree.
