Characteristics

Rosette leaves 3–7, ovate to cordate, 5–15 x 6–12mm, bluish-green, margins entire. Flower stem 100–30  tall, thin, 1–8-flowered. Flowers well spaced, 1–4 open at once, externally scabrous, 9–10 x 3–3.5mm, dark blackish brown and white, darkest towards apex. Dorsal sepal shorter than petals, prominently scabrous, petals smooth. Synsepalum shallowly curved in side view, curved inwards at top; frontal opening flat with shallow central notch. Free points triangular, sharply tapered, c.  long, just reaching top of hood. Petals smooth. Labellum not visible through sinus in any position, oblong with broad square base, 3.5–4 x 1.5mm, red-brown and white.

Environment

Scattered but locally common in coastal and hinterland areas, growing among shrubs in sparse forest in moderately deep, well-drained sandy and gravelly soils; also in moss pads developed in shallow sandy soils over sandstone sheets and ledges.
