Rosette leaves 4–6, ovate to elliptic, 10–40 x 5–15mm, green to yellowish, margins crinkled. Flower stem 150–30 tall. Flower semi-nodding, 14–18 x 8–10mm, translucent with green stripes and suffusions, apex brown to reddish. Dorsal sepal of similar length to petals, blunt. Lateral sepals scabrous, loosely embracing galea and separated from petals by wide side (lateral) gap. Sinus bulging in side view, deeply V-notched in front view. Free points tapered, 5– long, not extending above hood. Petals shortly pointed. Labellum curved, protruding prominently from sinus when set, 9–12 x 2–2.5mm, dark, bristly hairy.
Widespread but localised, often growing on slopes and swales of coastal dunes among tussocks and in coastal scrub and littoral rainforest in freely draining sands; also extending into near-coastal ranges and hinterland ranges, growing in open areas and among shrubs in tall moist to wet forests, including rainforest margins, stream banks and beside tracks in loams, clay loams and gravels.
