Rosette leaves 6–10, narrowly elliptic, 5–43 x 4–10mm. Flower stem 100–35 tall, 2– across, 1–7-flowered. Sterile bracts 2–4. Flowers porrect, hood translucent white with brown stripes, lateral sepals brown with translucent bands and chequered markings. Dorsal sepal point filamentous, 12–2 long. Lateral sepals about as wide as hood, flat, 6–10 x 7–10mm, upper margins nearly square, outer margins flat, hairy; free points filamentous, 15–3 long, deflexed or curved forwards, nearly parallel. Petals with large basal flanges blocking off base of opening, 12–15 x 3–3. wide. Labellum spathulate, 4–4.5 x 2.3–2.8mm, dark brown, thick, shallowly concave, margins hairy, strongly constricted near base; marginal bristles 8–12, to long; basal lobe very small with no bristles.
Widespread but localised, growing in yellow sand and laterite in shrubland dominated by Acacia and broombush; also in sands and loam on and around margins of granite rocks and in sheoak woodland; less commonly in York gum communities and under shrubs in soil pockets on ironstone breakaways.
