Rosette leaves 6–12, narrowly elliptic, 25–40 x 8–14mm. Flower stem 200–35 tall, 3– across, 2–8-flowered. Stem bracts 4–6. Flowers porrect to semi-erect, 35–60 x 12–14mm, translucent white with dark brown to blackish lines and markings (rarely green), shiny. Dorsal sepal point filamentous, 6–1 long, porrect to upcurved. Lateral sepals much wider than hood, deeply concave, margins flat, densely hairy; free points filamentous, 25–3 long, decurved to incurved, sometimes hooked forwards, parallel. Petals broad, with small basal flanges, 16–18 x 6–7mm. Labellum broadly obovate, 6–7.5 x 3.5–4mm, thin-textured, dark blackish-brown, tip upcurved; margins shallowly scalloped (appearing slightly wavy), with 24–30 spreading bristles c.0. long; two prominent bristles c.2. long projecting from near base; basal lobe thin, sloping backwards, glabrous or with few short bristles.
Scattered but sometimes locally common, growing in drier types of forest, especially box-ironbark forest with sparse groundcover and mallee communities, including patches of whipstick mallee around Bendigo, Vic, in freely draining sands, loams and stony soils.
