Rosette leaves 4–8, ovate to oblong, 15–30 x 6–12mm. Flower stem 200–35 tall, 1.5– across, 1–6-flowered. Stem bracts 3–5. Flowers porrect to semi-erect, on long stalks, 35–40 x 14–15mm, translucent white with brown lines and chequered markings. Dorsal sepal point filamentous, 8–1 long, upcurved. Lateral sepals reflexed back towards ovary, slightly wider than hood, shallowly concave, margins incurved, glabrous to sparsely hairy; free points filamentous, 30–4 long, widely divergent, tips often curling upwards. Petals with vestigial basal flanges, 18–20 x 5–8mm. Labellum elliptic to obovate, 7–9 x 3–4mm, narrowed to base, dark red-brown, broadly concave with narrow channel; margins with 12–20 spreading bristles to 1. long, two prominent bristles c.3. long projecting from near base; basal lobe thick, sloping backwards, with tuft of short bristles.
Localised, growing among rocks and scattered shrubs on rocky slopes and ridges in sparse stunted woodland and shrubland; also on rock shelves, crevices and shallow soil over sandstone plates in freely draining sands.
