Rosette leaves 3–10, ovate, 7–22 x 5–16mm, dark green, margins entire or irregular to crinkled, apex blunt. Flower stem 50–20 tall (often short), with 3–5 spreading stem leaves to 40 x 5mm. Flower erect, 27–32 x 10–12mm, white, boldly marked with green, brown or pinkish markings. Dorsal sepal tip acuminate, 2– long. Sinus slightly bulging in side view, broadly V-notched in front view, scabrous. Free points 20–3 long, erect, tips often curved forwards. Labellum weakly curved, hidden within flower or tip just visible above sinus when set, 12–15 x 3–4mm, dark red-brown, tapered above middle.
Widespread and often locally common, especially in drier inland areas, growing on hills and ranges in drier forests with sparse understorey, sparse woodland and among rocks on rocky slopes, ridges and gorges in freely draining skeletal soil, gravel and loam; also under Callitris in freely draining sands and gravels, and in mallee communities and broombush on consolidated dunes and flats in low rainfall areas, often in calcareous soils and over limestone; also in scrub near coast in SA.
