Rosette leaves 5–15, broadly elliptical to ovate, 6–25 x 3–18mm, dull green to bluish-green, margins entire. Flower stem 150–60 tall, slender, wiry, 3–18-flowered. Flowers well spaced, 1–4 open at once, externally scabrous, 10–12 x 3.5–5mm, base green and white, apex dark brown, ageing to red or pink. Dorsal sepal and petals of similar length, both strongly scabrous. Synsepalum curved in side view, sharply stepped inwards at top; frontal opening, broad, flat. Free points narrowly tapered, 1.5– long, not reaching top of hood. Labellum not visible through sinus in any position, elliptical, 3.8–4.5 x 1.6–1.7mm, dark red-brown and white, blunt.
Widely distributed on ridges and W slopes of Great Dividing Ra., growing in wide range of forested habitats, particularly eucalypt or Callitris woodland with sparse shrubby or tussocky understorey in freely draining shallow clay loams, often skeletal, occasionally sands.
