Rosette leaves 5–8, narrowly elliptical, 5–25 x 3–12mm, distinctly veined. Flower stem 70–18 tall, 1– across, 1–4-flowered. Sterile bracts 2–4. Flowers porrect to semi-nodding, translucent white with tan-brown stripes and chequered markings. Dorsal sepal point filamentous, 10–1 long, decurved. Lateral sepals slightly wider than hood, 8–11 x 7–10mm, flat to shallowly concave, upper margins nearly square, outer margins flat with numerous short hairs; free points filamentous, 12–2 long, closely parallel, hooked forwards. Petals with large basal flanges blocking off base of opening, 11–13 x 3–4mm. Labellum broadly spathulate, 5–5.5 x 2– wide, dark brown, faintly striped, thin-textured, flat to shallowly concave, margins very hairy, strongly constricted near base; marginal bristles 6–14, to 2. long; basal lobe very small.
Widely distributed but localised, growing in shrubland in well-drained sandy or gravelly loam, under shrubs around margins of granite rocks and in shallow soils on granite outcrops; also among rocks on ironstone breakaways.
