Characteristics

An undershrub up to 40 cm high, erect or ascending or rarely ± prostrate. Young stem appressed-white pubescent, sometimes subsericeous. Leaves unifoliolate to digitately trifoliolate, or rarely with occasional leaves 5-foliolate; petiole 1-7(9) mm long, appressed-pubescent; leaflets 20-50(60) x 2-6(9) mm, oblanceolate to linear-elliptic, the upper surface glabrous or rarely very sparsely or minutely appressed-pubescent, the lower surface shortly and regularly closely appressed-pubescent. Calyx 2.5-4 mm long, appressed-pubescent. Petals bluish or purple, or perhaps rarely white; standard 4-7 mm long, spathulate or subpandurate. Pods 20-36 x 8-13 mm, somewhat shallowly plicate, flat or coiled (see subspecies), finely and inconspicuously appressed-pubescent or rarely very shortly spreading-pubescent.
