Characteristics

Stunted, densely caespitose or stoloniferous annual(?). Culms often decumbent, abundantly branching extravaginally, 7–13 cm high. Leaves: basal sheaths thin, hyaline, closely enveloping the narrow culms; ligule 1.2–2 mm long; blade involute, 1–2 cm long, 0.2–0.7 mm wide. Inflorescence contracted at anthesis, partially enclosed by flag leaf sheath, 3–6 cm long; lateral branches smooth or sparsely scabridulous, bearing spikelets throughout; primary branches undivided at least 0.5–1 mm, up to 2–6 mm; maximum total branch length 13–15 mm. Spikelets 3–5 mm long; bisexual florets 3–5. Lower glume 1–1.3 mm long; upper glume 1.7–1.9 mm long. Callus with some hairs. Lemma 2–2.6 mm long, puberulous near base; midvein extending to apex, sometimes excurrent. Palea 1.9–2.2 mm long; keels scabrous or ciliate in lower half. Anthers 0.5–0.6 mm long, creamy white.
