Characteristics

Slender annual, some with stoloniferous habit. Culms erect, branching intravaginally, 24–30 cm high. Leaves: ligule 1–3 mm long; blade involute, 8–12 cm long, 1–1.3 mm wide. Inflorescence contracted at anthesis, partially enclosed by flag leaf sheath, 7–14 cm long; lateral branches scabridulous, bearing spikelets throughout; primary branches undivided at least 1–4 mm, up to 10–20 mm; maximum total branch length 30–50 mm. Spikelets 6–10 mm long; bisexual florets 7–11. Lower glume 2–3.3 mm long; upper glume 4.2–8 mm long. Callus puberulous. Lemma 3–4 mm long, glabrous; midvein not extending to apex. Palea 3–4 mm long; keels scabrous/ciliate on lower half. Anthers 0.5–1.1 mm long, creamy white.
