Perennial, tufted, grayish green. Culms 30–50 cm tall, 1–2.5 mm in diam. Leaf sheaths smooth or scabrid; ligule 0.5–1.2 mm, truncate or obtuse; leaf blade flat or inrolled, 3–8 cm, 2–4 mm wide, margins and adaxial surface scabrous. Panicle laxly spreading, 8–20 × 6–12 cm; branches 2–4 per node, basal primary branch 4–8 cm, horizontally spreading or reflexed after anthesis, axis and branches scaberulous, lower part naked. Spikelets 5–6 mm, florets 4–6; rachilla internodes smooth; glumes obtuse, lower glume 1–1.5 mm, upper glume ca. 2 mm; lemmas 2.4–3 mm, base pubescent, margins yellow, apex truncate-triangular; palea keels ciliate; anthers 1.5–2 mm.
