Characteristics

Shrub or small tree (or ? liane) 3–5 m. tall, glabrous; bark on young branches dark brown, moderately shiny.. Leaf-blades drying olive-green, oblong to oblong-elliptic, 4–13.5 cm. long, 2–6 cm. wide, subacuminate to acuminate at apex, cuneate to attenuated at base, stiffly papery; lateral nerves in 5–7 main pairs; tertiary nerves obscure; domatia present as small ciliate pockets; petioles 3–8 mm. long; stipules with a truncate to triangular base terminating in a linear keeled and decurrent lobe, 4–8 mm. long altogether.. Flowers 4-merous, borne in shortly pedunculate umbels; functionally ♂ flowers 1–8; peduncles 0.5–3 mm. long; pedicels 2–4 mm. long, glabrous; bracts broadly lanceolate to ovate, 2.5–5 mm. long, pubescent inside; calyx-tube poorly defined; limb lobed to base, or almost so, membranous; lobes somewhat irregular, triangular, 0.5–1.25(–2.5) mm. long; corolla white-green or yellow-green; tube 5–10 mm. long, densely congested with hairs at throat; lobes oblong or oblong-ovate, 2–3.5 mm., acute, shortly apiculate or not, reflexed; anthers partly exserted, subsessile, 1.25 mm. long; stigmatic knob broadly ellipsoid, 1 mm. long, 0.75 mm. wide.. Functionally ♀ flowers 1–2; calyx-tube hemispherical to subglobose, 1–2 mm. long; anthers 0.75 mm. long; stigmatic knob 1.25 mm. long, 1.75 mm. wide, deeply cleft when mature.. Fruit ± oblong in outline, 1.1–1.4 cm. long, 1–1.3 cm. wide, ± 5 mm. thick, indented at apex, slightly tapered towards base, costa apparent in lower half; pedicel lengthening to 5–8 mm.; pyrene ± narrowly obovoid, 1.1 cm. long, 5 mm. wide, with a very distinct crest at apex, rugulose.
