Characteristics

Shrub 3 m. tall; young stems glabrous or with glabrescent lines on either side; older stems with greyish or brown longitudinally ridged bark.. Leaf-blades remaining green or turning greyish or inky when dry, elliptic, 5–10 cm. long, 1.8–2.3 cm. wide, acuminate at apex, acute at base, papery; lateral nerves in ± 5 main pairs; tertiary nerves obscure or drying discolorous on young leaves; domatia present as small glabrous or ciliate pits, obscure or sometimes absent; petioles 2–3 mm. long; stipules linear-triangular, 7–8 mm. long, shortly connate at base, seldom persisting beyond top two nodes.. Flowers ? hermaphrodite, 4-merous, borne in 2–4-flowered pedunculate umbels; peduncles 2–3 mm. long; pedicels 0.5–1 mm. long; bracts 5–6 mm. long.. Calyx-limb lobed to base; lobes linear or slightly triangular at base, 1–2 mm. long.. Corolla-tube 5 mm. long, with crisped hairs at throat; lobes ovate, 2 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide, shortly apiculate.. Stigmatic knob ± 0.75 mm. in diameter.. Fruits borne singly; pedicels 3–5 mm. long; only immature fruit known, bilobed, ± 1 cm. long, 1.1 cm. wide, scarcely indented at apex.
