Origin: at the Natl. Hort. Res. Sta., Tsukuba, Japan. Cross of Ri-14 (Kikusui × Yakumo) × Yakumo made in 1954; selected in 1963; introd. in 1972 by M. Kajiura, K Kanato, Y. Machida, M. Maeda, I. Kozaki, T. Tashiro, O. Kishimoto, and K Seike. Tree: medium to large; vigorous; willowy; productive. Fruit: large, 300-350 g; globose to oblate; skin russeted, golden to golden brown, enlarged lenticels. Flesh off-white, sweet, mild, crisp, juicy; finer texture than Chojuro and higher quality; ripens with Chojuro, mid-August in Oregon; stores 4 weeks.
