Characteristics

Tree, small and bushy, the young branchlets shortly stellate-puberulous. Leaves shortly petiolate, the petiole 3-8 mm. long, shortly stellate-puberulous or fimbrillate-lepidote, the stipules linear, 3-4 mm. long, shortly stellate-puberulous; blade oblong-lanceolate to obovate-oblong, rounded or obtuse to more or less acute at the base, bluntly acuminate at the apex, 5-19 cm. long and 2-6 cm. wide, membranous, the margins entire to slightly undulate, the upper surface slightly shining and glabrous or nearly so, the lower surface scatteringly fimbrillate-lepidote along the nerves, the nervation penninerved and prominent beneath. Flowers axillary, solitary, the pedicel slender, 0.6-4 cm. long, fimbrillate-lepidote, bracteolate, the bracteoles lanceolate-subulate, ca. 4-6 mm. long, fimbrillate-lepidote outside, long persistent; calyx tubiform-conical, 5-lobulate, ca. 14-15 mm. long and 4-5 mm. broad, fimbrillate-lepidote without, appressed-villous within, the lobes rounded and ca. 2 mm. long; petals more or less twice as long as the calyx, white, stellate-arachnoid without, glabrous within; staminal column cylindric, ca. 5 cm. long, undivided, the upper part or ca. 7 mm. antheriferous, glabrous; anthers numerous, sessile; ovary more or less pyriform, ca. 1.5 mm. long and 1.5 mm. in diam. at the base, sericeous, 2-celled(?); style sericeous near the base, elsewhere glabrous.
