Characteristics

A decumbent to spreading herb of ±0.1 m tall. Tuber ±0.1 m diameter, ovoid. Aerial stems up to 0.15 m long, reddish-green, hirsute, branching dichotomous. Leaves spreading, mostly folded lengthwise, petiolate; petiole 3-10 mm long; blade 20-65 x 4-15 mm, ovate to narrowly ovate, above dull green glaucous, glabrous, below hirsute, secondary veins arching and 10-12 to a side, apex obtuse to acute, mucronate, base cuneate to obtuse. Inflorescences terminal or axillary, paniculate, monochasial branches 3-5-flowered, peduncles 2-10 mm long, pedicels 2-8 mm long; bracts 2-3 mm long, subulate. Sepals 1.5-2.0 x 1 mm, ovate, purplish-green, outside hirsute. Corolla tube 2.5-4.0 mm long, campanulate, outside purplish-green to green, hirsute, inside yellowish-green, glabrous; lobes spreading, 4-8 x 2.0-3.5 mm, oblong-ovate to narrowly ovate, outside green to purplish-green, hirsute, inside yellowish-green with bright purple or magenta inverted ‘V’, apex obtuse to obliquely obtuse. Coronal feet free, lobes tri-partite; central segment 10-11 mm long, filiform; lateral segments 1.5 mm long, corniculate, fleshy. Stamens from inner base of coronal feet; filaments ±1 mm long, filiform; anthers 1-2 mm long, narrowly ovate, greenish white to mauve, full length slits, apex acute. Ovaries ±1 mm long; style 2 mm long, terete; style-head 1-2 x 1-2 mm, broadly ovoid, greenish white to mauve. Gynostegium in corolla mouth. Follicles paired, horizontally divergent, 50-80 x 8-14 mm, narrowly ovoid. Seeds 8 x 3 mm, obliquely ovate; coma 20-25 mm long, coppery-white.
