Characteristics

Prostrate to procumbent, many-stemmed herb. Tuber up to 0.15 m diameter, sub-spherical. Aerial stems annual, procumbent, up to 0.4 m long, 2-4 mm diameter, pubescent to velutinous, brown, branching lateral. Leaves spreading, petiolate; petiole 3-13 mm long, velutinous; blade (30-)50-65 x 10-30 mm, narrowly obovate to narrowly oblong-obovate, coriaceous, above dark green, velutinous, beneath pale green, densely velutinous, secondary veins patent to divaricate and 13-22 to a side, apex truncate, mucronate or acute, often recurved, base obtuse to tapering. Inflorescences axillary at apical 3-5 nodes, compact, globose, many-flowered fascicle of monochasia, densely velutinous, peduncles 3-7 mm long, pedicels 3-4 mm long; bracts 2-3 mm long, acicular. Sepals 23 x ±1 mm, narrowly triangular to narrowly ovate, outside densely pubescent, apex attenuate. Corolla tube ±1 mm long, campanulate, glabrous to sparsely pubescent; lobes 3-4 x 2 mm, narrowly ovate to narrowly ovate-triangular, outside pubescent, inside papillose, green or greenish-yellow, base maroon to violet, apex obtuse to acute. Corona reddish to purple, papillose; coronal feet dilated, fleshy, tri-segmented, free; central segment ±2 mm long, subulate, apex simple or deeply bifid; lateral segments ±1 mm long, subulate or triangular, apex 3-4-fid. Stamens from inner face of coronal feet; filament bases ±0.7 mm long, columnar, fleshy, filiform part of filaments ±0.5 mm long; anthers ±2 mm, narrowly ovate, whitish, full length slits, apex acute. Ovaries ±0.5 mm long; style ±2 mm long, terete; style-head 1.5 x 1 mm, ovoid, apex acute; translators 0.7-0.9 mm long, spoon elliptic. Gynostegium in corolla mouth. Follicles solitary, pendulous, 35-45 x 1215 mm, ovoid, apex acute. Seeds 7-8 mm long, obliquely obovate, brown; coma 10-15 mm long, silvery white.
