Characteristics

Erect herb, probably annual, 30-75 cm high; stems striate, branching distally, sparsely hirsute.. Leaves with petiole to 2 cm long with broad amplexicaul base, blade elliptic in outline, pinnatisect, 5-7.5 cm long, 2.4-4 cm wide, with 10-15 pairs of alternate lobes, lobes to 6 mm wide, dentate with teeth to 2 mm long, densely pilose on the veins beneath, with globose trichomes between the veins.. Capitula up to 5 together in terminal corymbose cymes, often subtended by leaves with very expanded petioles and reduced blade; involucre campanulate or urceolate, ± 15 mm in diameter; phyllaries 2-3-seriate, (narrowly) ovate, 6.5-8.5 mm long, the outer distally foliaceous, distally hairy along margins and midrib.. Corolla pale mauve, 9 mm long, glandular proximally, lobes ± 3 mm long, anthers 1.8 mm long..
