Characteristics

Shrub. Leaves mostly glabrous elliptic. Inflorescences are in terminal and axillary thyrses which superficially resemble spikes, the bracts and the bractlets small and inconspicuous; flowers either sessile or pedicellate. Flowers with the calyx 5-merous with equal lobes, the corolla bilabiate, the upper lip narrow, the lower lip broad and 3-lobed at the tip; stamens 2, exserted, the filaments flat-tened, the anthers 1-celled; style exserted, the stigma 2-parted. Capsules clavate, 4-seeded.
