Species

Angiosperms > Fabales > Fabaceae > Rhynchosia

Characteristics

Subshrub 1 m tall, much branched above, the ends of the branchlets probably slightly scandent, silvery silky pubescent; older stems dark, glabrescent. Leaflets 3, very discolorous, 0.8-2.3 x 0.3-1 cm, oblanceolate to ± elliptic, rounded or subacute and mucronulate at the apex, gradually narrowed to the base, grey above and with dense fine white appressed pubescence, silvery grey velvety tomentose beneath; petiole 0.5-1 mm long; rhachis plus petiolule 1-3 mm long; stipules 1-3 mm long, lanceolate. Inflorescences very reduced, 1-2-flowered; peduncle ± obsolete (but abbreviated branchlets can appear to be peduncles); pedicels 1-5 mm long; bracts 1-2 mm long, ovate, pubescent outside. Calyx pubescent and gland-dotted; tube 3.5 mm long; lobes unequal, lanceolate, 5 mm long, the upper pair joined for half their length. Corolla yellow (see note); standard 17 x 8 mm including the 2.5 mm long claw, obovate-oblong, slightly emarginate, auriculate, pubescent and gland-dotted outside. Pods 17 x 5 mm (?immature), oblanceolate, covered with glands and gland based setiform hairs. Seeds not seen.
