Leaflets 3, paler beneath, 1.5–4.8(8) × 1.3–4.5(8) cm, oblate-rhombic to ovate, the laterals oblique, rounded to usually acute or acuminate at the apex, rounded at the base, densely to sparsely puberulous above, pubescent on the nerves to entirely velvety beneath, gland-dotted on both surfaces; venation usually finely reticulate; petiole 0.8–6 cm long; rhachis 3–25 mm long; petiolules 1.5–3 mm long; stipules 2 × 0.5 mm, triangular, pubescent.
Calyx pubescent, glandular; tube 3 mm long; lobes triangular or lanceolate, often with grey hairs along the margins and midribs, the lowest the longest, 5.5–6 × 2 mm, the rest 3–4 × 1.5 mm, the upper pair entirely fused to form a triangular lobe or only free at the extreme apex.
Inflorescences axillary and terminal, sometimes several in one axil or branched, the apical ones paniculate; rhachis 3–9 cm long; peduncle 5–15 mm long; pedicels 5–7 mm long; bracts persistent, 2.5–4.5 × 1.5–3 mm, ovate, pubescent.
Pod straw-coloured, veined with green, 2–3 cm × 6–8 mm, oblong-falcate, acute at both ends, densely shortly puberulous and glandular (often ± glabrous in Dem. Rep. Congo).
A scrambling bean family herb. The stems are much branched and somewhat woody. It can climb 60-200 cm tall. The leaves have 3 leaflets. They are more pale underneath.
Standard yellow, veined with reddish-brown, 12–14 × 10–12 mm, broadly obovate, glabrous; wings yellow; keel cream-coloured with a greyish or purple tip.
Stems much branched, woody, reddish-brown, densely puberulous or pubescent when young, later glabrescent and fissured.
Mostly erect or sometimes scrambling subshrub with tips twining, 0.6–2 m tall, or much less often a distinct climber.
Seeds dark reddish-brown, 3.5 × 2.5 mm, oblong-reniform.
