Sessile spikelet 8.5–11 mm long, narrowly ovate; inferior glume unornamented on the back, faintly scaberulous below, scabrid above, subacute to acute at the apex, awnless; superior glume awnless.

Pedicelled spikelet much reduced, represented by a curved pedicel a little shorter than the sessile spikelet, surmounted by a pair of glumes 1.5–5 mm long.
Raceme 12–20 cm long, the internodes longer than the sessile spikelets, shortly pilose along the edges and around the summit.
Leaf laminas up to 30 cm × 8–9 mm, flat with a long setaceous apex.
Densely caespitose perennial; culms up to 120 cm high.
