Pedicelled spikelet represented by a curved pedicel shorter than the sessile spikelet, surmounted by a vestigial glume up to 1 mm long (in the New World), sometimes the spikelet up to 2.5 mm long, well developed and containing a floret (also in the New World), rarely the spikelet up to 6.5 mm long, fully developed, bisexual, awnless (in the Flora Zambesiaca area).
