Sessile spikelet 3.5–5.5 mm long (excluding the awns), narrowly ovate-oblong to linear-oblong; inferior glume prominently rugose in the inferior 2/3, with 5–7 laterally projecting transverse ridges, bifid at the apex into slightly unequal awns 1.5–4(6) mm long; superior glume with an awn 5–9.5 mm long.
