Shrub or small tree to 12 m. tall; branches slender, glabrous.. Leaf-lamina broadly elliptic to elliptic-oblong or elliptic-lanceolate, 3.4–12.7 cm. long, 2–6.7 cm. wide, the base subcordate to rounded, the apex usually subobtuse or subacute, sometimes shortly acuminate, glabrous, margin crenate-serrate to serrulate, lateral veins 5–11 pairs, prominent; petiole 7–10 mm. long, glabrous or slightly pubescent.. Inflorescence a rather lax axillary raceme, sometimes branched at the base, with 2–10 flowers generally; flowers erect or spreading, white or pale pink, aromatic; peduncle 11–37 mm. long, sparsely pubescent, puberulous or glabrous; bracts and bracteoles oblong-elliptic, 1.5–2.5 mm. long, ribbed, margin ciliate, soon caducous; pedicels slender, 4–14 mm. long, sparsely pubescent to glabrous.. Sepals ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 1.5–3 mm. long, ribbed, glabrous or sparsely pubescent, margin ciliate.. Petals elliptic-lan-ceolate, 6–10 mm. long, erect or spreading but only tardily reflexing, margin ciliate.. Stamens 5–6 mm. long, the filaments fused together completely to form a tube; connective-appendage lanceolate, entire, decurrent, almost twice as long as the anther; thecal appendages 2, linear-lanceolate.. Ovary glabrous.. Capsule subglobose, 6–9 mm. long, obscurely 3-lobed, glabrous, smooth, reddish when ripe.. Fig. 5/6–10.
