Leaves petiolate; lamina 4.5–9 (11) x 2.5–5 (7) cm., broadly elliptic to oblong, acute or obtuse to rounded or slightly emarginate at the apex, cordate (less frequently rounded or broadly cuneate) at the base, serrate or serrulate, subcoriaceous to membranous, bright green, glabrous, with venation prominent on both surfaces; petiole 6–10 mm. long, channelled above, minutely pubescent or glabrous; stipules 6–11 mm. long, subulate, glabrous.
Stamen-filaments completely fused to form a tube, glabrous; anthers sessile on the margin of the tube, ovoid, pubescent, with a lanceolate, acute, decurrent connective-appendage, and two lanceolate-subulate thecal appendages.
Petals 6–10 mm. long, 3–4 x the sepals, cream-white or pink, lanceolate, obtuse or acute at the apex, erect or ± spreading at first, becoming ± completely reflexed, margin ciliolate.
Shrub or small tree, 1.5–12 m. high, much branched, with spreading crown, evergreen; bark smooth, greyish-or brownish-green.
Capsule 6–7 mm. long, red, globose or slightly 3-sided, glabrous, smooth, rather succulent, dehiscent at the apex, 1-seeded.
Sepals c. 2 mm. long, ovate, obtuse, vertically ribbed in the upper part, glabrous or almost so apart from the margin.
Flowers erect or spreading, pedicellate; pedicels 5–10 (14) mm. long, orange, pubescent, rarely almost glabrous.
Bracts and bracteoles oblong-elliptic, cucullate, vertically ribbed, with a ciliolate margin, deciduous.
Inflorescence up to 10-flowered, racemose, simple, axillary; peduncle orange, pubescent.
Ovary ± globose, glabrous; style about twice as long as the ovary.
Branches slender, terete, glabrous, with prominent lenticels.
Flower-buds conical, pedicellate.
Seeds c. 5 mm. long, pale brown.
