Characteristics

Plants 50-80(-120) mm high, often clump-forming. Corm globose, rounded, 8-10 mm diam., oblique, tunics woody, splitting into curved teeth below, with fibrous neck 20-50 mm long. Stem subterranean. Leaves ± 5, all basal, suberect and ± straight, up to twice as long as flowering stems, terete or compressed, narrowly 4-grooved, 1.5-2.0 mm diam., median ribs softly villous on margins with hairs up to 1 mm long. Peduncles up to 5, well exserted, terete; outer bracts green with narrow, colourless membranous margins, 18-25 mm long, closely ribbed (8 to 10 veins/mm), inner bracts with broad colourless membranous margins. Flowers salver-shaped, white with yellowish throat outlined with purple, tepals flushed mauve and feathered purple on reverse, tube longitudinally banded with purple and yellow; perianth tube cylindric, 20-33 mm long; tepals narrowly elliptic, spreading, 12-20 x 2.5-4.0 mm long. Filaments inserted at mouth of tube, ± 4 mm long, glabrous, white; anthers 6-7 mm long, dark purple; pollen reddish brown. Style dividing near anther apices, branches ± 2 mm long, divided ± halfway.
