Characteristics

Plants 100-250 mm high. Corm subglobose, obliquely flattened toward base with crescent-shaped basal ridge ± as wide as corm, 10-20 mm diam., tunics splitting into fine parallel fibrils along ridge. Stem aerial, exserted (20-)50-150 mm, peduncles congested at apex. Leaves 2 or 3(4), lower 1 basal, terete and narrowly 5-to 8-grooved, 0.8-1.5 mm diam. Peduncles semiterete, 10-30 mm long, suberect and up to 50 mm long in fruit; outer bracts green with narrow colourless or finely brown-speckled membranous margins, 7-16 mm long, finely veined (5 or 6 veins/mm), inner bracts with very broad, brown-speckled membranous margins. Flowers white with golden-yellow cup with three slender dark lines in lower half, sweetly scented; perianth tube cup-shaped, 4 mm long; tepals 16-20 long, outer obovate, 6-9 mm wide, inner spathulate, 9-13 mm wide. Filaments 2-3 mm long, pilose at base; anthers 3-5 mm long, erect or slightly spreading, pale yellow. Style dividing near base or lower half of anthers, branches ± 2 mm long, divided for half their length. Capsules subglobose, 8-10 mm long.

Plants up to 600 mm long. Stem 120-350 mm long, often deflexed near the top in the fruiting stage. Basal leaf single, 0.8-1.5 mm in diam., with 5-8 narrow grooves. Bracts green or greenish, inner with wide, colourless or brown-speckled membranous margins. Flowers slightly smaller, white or cream in the upper half, buttercup-yellow in the lower half, fragrant. Perianth tube 4 mm long, cup-shaped; segments obtuse, subobtuse or emarginate, outer 6-9 mm wide, inner 9-13 mm wide. Filaments 3-4 mm; anthers 3-5 mm long, slightly spreading. Style 4-8 mm; stigmas not reaching the anther tips. Capsules on erect peduncles.
Like R. multisulcata but basal leaf solitary. Flowers white with yellow cup, fragrant. Fruiting pedicels erect.
