Characteristics

Plants 15-30 mm high. Corm globose or obovoid, 3-6 mm diam., rounded or crested below, tunics woody, split into curved or bent, grooved teeth below. Stem subterranean. Leaves (1)2, basal, filiform, narrowly 4-grooved, 0.3-0.5 diam., upper usually smaller. Peduncle 1, semi-terete, reddish brown, suberect in fruit; outer bract submembranous and greenish or purplish, with narrow, colourless membranous margins, 6-15 mm long, faintly veined (5 or 6 veins/mm), inner bracts with wide, membranous margins brown-speckled near tip. Flowers white or pale pink with golden-yellow cup, outer tepals striped purple on reverse; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 3-5 mm long; tepals oblanceolate to elliptic, 7-16 x 2.5-6.0 mm. Filaments 4-6 mm long, pilose basally, golden-yellow; anthers 2.0-3.5 mm long, pale yellow. Style dividing near anther apices. Capsules oblong, ± 8 mm long.

Plants 35-180 mm long. Corm subglobose, 3-6 mm in diam., with curved basal teeth bent over a rounded base. Leaves few, basal, filiform, 30-180 x 0.3-0.5 mm, with very narrow grooves. Bracts sub membranous, purplish or greenish, inner with wide, fawn or brown-speckled or edged membranous margins. Flowers often single, 15-25 mm long, white or pale pink with a golden-yellow cup, outer segments with purplish blue stripes on the backs. Perianth tube 3-5 mm long, narrow in the lower half; segments 7-16 x 2.5-6 mm. Filaments 4-6 mm, orange-yellow; anthers 2-3.5 mm pale yellow. Style 7-9 mm; stigmas at or just above the anther tips. Capsules on suberect peduncles.
Like R. obscura but leaves 1-3. Flowers white to pale pink with yellow cup, filaments longer than anthers.
