Characteristics

Plants 50-200 mm high. Corm globose, obliquely flattened toward base with crescent-shaped basal ridge, 8-15 mm diam., tunics splitting into fine parallel fibrils along ridge. Stem subterranean or exserted up to 150 mm. Leaves 3 to 5, lower 2 basal when stem exserted, filiform or terete to compressed-terete, narrowly 4-grooved, 0.5-1.5 mm diam. Peduncles up to 4, up to 80 mm long, semiterete, strongly curved initially in fruit but later erect; outer bracts green with narrow membranous margins, 8-10 mm long, lightly ribbed (5 or 6 veins/mm), inner bracts with broad, brown-streaked or-edged membranous margins and sometimes speckled in central area below. Flowers lemon-or canary-yellow, sometimes paler or darker in cup and veins sometimes darker, outer tepals often greenish or brownish on reverse; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 4-7 mm long; tepals elliptic, 15-32 x 4-10 mm. Filaments 5-8 mm long, pilose basally, yellow; anthers 4-7 mm long, yellow. Style dividing shortly below to shortly above anther tips, branches 2-3 mm long, divided halfway. Capsules shortly cylindric, 10-15 mm long.

Basal leaves 2 or more, filiform or compressed cylindrical, 100-450 x 0.7-1.5 mm, grooves narrow. Inner bract often slightly shorter than the outer, green with wide brown-streaked or-edged membranous margins, tip green or slightly scarious. Flowers 22-40 mm long, lemon-yellow, outer segments greenish or brownish on the backs. Perianth tube 4-7 mm long; segments oblanceolate or elliptical, 20-32 x (5-)8-10 mm. Filaments 5-8 mm; anthers 4-7 mm. Style 10-15 mm; stigmas more or less at the anther tips. Capsules shortly cylindrical, on arcuate peduncles which straighten later.

Flowers yellow to pale orange; bracts green with narrow hyaline margins, inner bract margins broader and streaked with brown.
