Plants 30-200 mm high, sometimes clumped. Corm obovoid, 8-15 mm diam., pointed, tunics woody, split into straight or slightly recurved teeth converging toward basal point. Stem subterranean. Leaves 2 to 8(-12), all evidently basal, terete-filiform and narrowly 4-grooved to compressed-cylindric or H-shaped and widely grooved or channelled, sometimes with raised secondary veins in channels, 0.5-5.0 mm diam. Peduncles up to 7, semi-terete, recurved but straightening and suberect in fruit; outer bracts greenish or purplish, with narrow, colourless membranous margins, 10-28 mm long, closely veined (± 8 veins/mm), inner bracts with wide, brown or brown-streaked (rarely colourless) membranous margins. Flowers magenta to lilac-pink with golden-yellow or orange-yellow cup, with purple or bluish transverse blotches in throat with median line extending into cup, outer tepals irregularly streaked or feathered on reverse; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 3-5 mm long; tepals oblanceolate to elliptic, 15-30(-35) x 5-10 mm. Filaments 3-6 mm long, pilose basally; anthers 4-8 mm long, yellow or with dark lines. Style usually dividing opposite upper half of anthers. Capsules oblong or ellipsoid, acute and shortly beaked, 6-14 mm long.
