Characteristics

Plants 50-100(-150) mm high. Corm globose, 8-15 mm diam., obliquely rounded below, tunics woody, split into bent, grooved teeth below. Stem subterranean. Leaves 6 to 12, all evidently basal, terete-filiform, narrowly 4-grooved, 0.5-1.5 mm diam. Peduncles up to 6, semi-terete, recurved and later coiling in fruit; outer bracts green with narrow membranous margins expanding to well-developed, colourless or whitish membranous tip, 12-20 mm long, closely ribbed (± 8 veins/mm), inner bracts with wide, colourless or whitish membranous margins. Flowers buttercup-or chrome-yellow, outer tepals brownish or feathered with brown on reverse; perianth tube cup-or funnel-shaped, 4-6 mm long; tepals obovate, ± unequal, 18-28 mm long, outer 7-12 mm wide, inner 10-16 mm wide. Filaments 4-6 mm long, pilose basally, yellow; anthers 5-8 mm long, yellow. Style exserted and dividing 3-6 mm beyond anthers, branches forked. Capsules oblong, 7-10 mm long.

Bracts green or greenish, outer with narrow, inner with wide membranous margins and membranous tips. Flowers 25-35 mm long, buttercup-yellow. Perianth tube 4-6 mm long; segments 18-28 mm long, the outer obovate to oblanceolate, 7-12 mm wide, brownish on the backs, the inner 10-16 mm wide, obovate-cuneate, sometimes with flexuose margins. Filaments 4.5-6 mm; anthers 5-7.5 mm long, slightly spreading, with incurved tips, reaching about halfway up the perianth. Style 13-17 mm long; stigmas narrowly ligulate, reaching some millimetres above the anther tips. Capsules on bent peduncles.
