Characteristics

Plants 30-50(-80) mm high. Corm globose, 10-25 mm diam., obliquely rounded below, tunics woody, split into bent, grooved teeth below. Stem subterranean. Leaves 3 to 8, all evidently basal, compressed-terete, 4-grooved, 2-3 mm diam. Peduncles up to 4, semi-terete, recurved or flexuous in fruit; outer bracts green and herbaceous in lower half, with wide, brown-flecked, membranous margins and tip, 15-18 mm long, herbaceous portion triangular and closely ribbed (8 veins/mm), inner bracts with wide, brown-flecked membranous margins. Flowers pale lilac or wisteria-blue with orange-yellow cup and purple and black blotches extending as a median line into cup, outer tepals feathered with purple on reverse; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 5-6 mm long; tepals obovate, 15-22 x 8-10 mm. Filaments 5-6 mm long, pilose basally, orange-yellow; anthers 4-5 mm long, yellow. Style dividing just below anther apices. Capsules oblong, ± 10 mm long.

Leaves compressed cylindrical, 100-130 x 2-3 mm. Outer bract with a green, almost triangular, central basal part and wide, minutely speckled membranous margins and tip; inner green or greenish in the centre, margins and tip as the outer. Flowers 22-33 mm long, pale wistaria-blue, each segment with a violet and below that an almost black blotch, cup and throat orange-yellow with dark lines, outer segments on the backs with, 3-5 violet veins and fine feathered veining. Perianth tube 5-6 mm long; segments 15-22 x 8-10 mm. Filaments 5-6 mm; anthers 4-5 mm long, yellow. Style 10-12 mm; stigmas at or just below the anther tips. Capsules on strongly recurved, and later flexuose peduncles.
Cormous geophyte, 80-130 mm tall, corm rounded at base, with curved acuminate teeth. Leaves 3-5, somewhat swollen, narrowly 4-grooved. Flowers pale wisteria blue with violet and black blotches around yellow cup; outer bract with a triangular green lower half and wide, brown-speckled, hyaline margins and tips, inner bract with wide hyaline margins; fruiting peduncles strongly recurved or later flexuose.
