Characteristics

Plants 40-150 mm high. Corm globose, obliquely flattened with narrow, crescent-shaped basal ridge as wide as corm, 7-15 mm diam., tunics splitting into fine, parallel fibrils along ridge. Stem subterranean or exserted up to 50 mm. Leaves 3 to 7, lower 2 basal when stem developed, suberect, terete, narrowly 4-grooved, 0.5-1.0 mm diam. Peduncles up to 3, semiterete, suberect; outer bracts green with narrow membranous margins, 13-25 mm long, leathery, ± keeled above, closely ribbed (3 or 4 veins/mm), inner bracts similar but with wider, translucent membranous margins, rarely with a few brown flecks. Flowers narrowly funnel-salver-shaped, magenta-purple with violet veins and blotch at mouth, throat white with purple lines; perianth tube narrowly funnel-shaped, 17-25 mm long; tepals lanceolate or elliptic, 11-16 x 3.5-5.0 mm. Filaments inserted in upper 1/2 of tube; 4-5 mm long, included, glabrous; anthers 4-5 mm long, golden-yellow. Style dividing opposite upper 1/2 of anthers, branches ± 2.5 mm long, divided halfway. Capsule ellipsoid, 10-12 mm long.

Plants 100-150 mm long. Corm with a small crescent-shaped basal ridge. Stem short or up to 50 mm long. Basal leaves 2 or more, filiform, 100-150 x 0.5-1 mm, grooves very narrow. Outer bract green, up to 22 mm long, reaching to the bases of the perianth segments; inner green with colourless membranous margins. Flowers 30-40 mm long, magenta-purple, with a violet blotch and violet stripes on each perianth segment in the throat. Perianth tube 17-22 mm long, long-funnel-shaped; segments 11-16 x 3.5-5 mm. Stamens included; filaments inserted above the middle of the perianth tube, 4-5 mm long, as long as the golden-yellow anthers. Style 15-16 mm; stigmas more or less at the anther tips. Capsules cylindrical, on sub-erect peduncles.

Flowers dark purple to magenta with darker veins, perianth tube long, cylindrical, streaked pale inside; bracts green, inner with broad, whitish, papery margins.
