Characteristics

Plants 60-300 mm high. Corm globose, obliquely flattened toward base with crescent-shaped basal ridge ± as wide as corm, 7-15 mm diam., tunics splitting into fine parallel fibrils along ridge. Stem usually aerial, exserted up to 200 mm. Leaves 3 to 5, lowermost 1 or 2 basal when stem exserted, filiform or terete and narrowly 4-grooved, 1.0-1.5 mm diam., cauline leaves clustered at stem apex. Peduncles up to 8, up to 70 mm long, semiterete, arcuate initially in fruit but later suberect; outer bracts green with narrow membranous margins, 12-18(-20) mm long, lightly striate (4 or 5 veins/mm), inner bracts green with broad membranous margins speckled or spotted with brown along margins and sometimes in central area. Flowers white to cream-coloured in distal half, cup and lower half of segments orange or golden-yellow, outer tepals sometimes fawn or greenish on reverse, sweetly scented; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 4-8 mm long; tepals elliptic, 18-35 x 5-8 mm. Filaments 5-8 mm long, pilose basally, yellow; anthers 5-8 mm long. Style dividing at or beyond anther tips, branches 2 mm long, divided halfway. Capsules ellipsoid or cylindric, ± 10 mm long.

Stem 50-350 mm long. Basal leaves usually 2, c. 1 mm in diam. Inner bract green or greenish with brown-spotted or-edged or almost colourless membranous margins. Flowers 25-40 mm long, cream or white in the upper half of the perianth segments with yellow veins, outer segments sometimes greenish or fawn on the backs. Perianth tube up to 8 mm long; segments 18-35 x 5-8 mm, subacute to obtuse. Filaments 5-8 mm; anthers 5-8 mm long. Style 12-20 mm.
Like R. tabularis but basal leaves usually 2. Flowers cream-coloured with yellow cup, not blotched on reverse, inner bracts greenish in the centre.
