Characteristics

Plants 50-100 mm high. Corm subglobose, obliquely flattened toward base with crescent-shaped basal ridge, 10-15 mm diam.; tunics woody, split into fine parallel fibrils on basal ridge and forming short fibrous neck. Cataphylls purple, upper speckled with white above ground. Stem subterranean or shortly exserted. Leaves 3 or 4, lowermost basal or evidently all basal when stemless, 1.0-1.5 mm diam., oval in section, narrowly 4-grooved. Peduncles 1 to 3, hemiterete; outer bracts green with narrow or broader, brown-flecked membranous margins widening to prominent, brown-flecked membranous tip, 21-23 mm long, ribbed (5 or 6 veins/mm), sometimes with stronger median vein, inner bracts with broad, dark brown-flecked membranous margins, central portion green with ± 12 well-spaced raised veins. Flowers white with pale yellow cup, outer tepals feathered with dark purple on reverse; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 7-8 mm long, tepals oblanceolate, 27-30 x 10-13 mm. Filaments ± 6 mm long, puberulous basally; anthers ± 11 mm long, yellow. Style dividing opposite upper third of anthers, branches ± 1 mm long, divided for half their length.
