Characteristics

Plants 50-100 mm high. Corm globose or obovoid, 5-15 mm diam., rounded or crested below, tunics woody, split into curved or bent, grooved teeth below. Stem subterranean. Leaves 3 to 12, all evidently basal, terete-filiform, narrowly 4-grooved, 0.5-1.0 mm diam., sometimes minutely ciliolate on rib margins. Peduncles up to 5, semi-terete, reddish brown, suberect or recurved in fruit; outer bracts greenish or brownish and submembranous in lower half, with brown-speckled, membranous margins, 10-30 mm long, closely ribbed above (± 8 veins/mm), inner bracts with wide, brown-speckled membranous margins. Flowers golden-yellow, often with darker cup, with 1 or more dark veins in throat, outer tepals reddish brown or streaked with brown on reverse; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 3-4 mm long; tepals oblanceolate to elliptic, 18-27 x 5-7 mm. Filaments 4-5 mm long, pilose basally, yellow; anthers 3-4 mm long, initially joined at tips, yellow. Style dividing opposite anthers. Capsules subglobose or oblong, 8-10 mm long.

Plants 100-250 mm long. Corm sub-globose, with strongly curved basal teeth bent, and often broken over a rounded base. Leaves basal, filiform, sometimes minutely ciliate on rib margins, 90-250 x 0.5-1 mm, grooves narrow. Bracts greenish or brownish purple, inner with wide, brown, membranous margins and tip. Peduncles reddish brown, subterete. Flowers 22-35 mm long, golden-yellow, frequently with a darker yellow cup and one or more dark veins on each segment, outer segments reddish brown on the backs or with 3-5 dark veins. Perianth tube 3-4 mm; segments 18-27 x 5-7 mm. Filaments 4-5 mm; anthers 3-5 mm, at first lightly joined at the tips, reaching less than halfway up the perianth. Style 7-10 mm; stigmas at or just below the anther tips. Capsules on suberect or curved peduncles.
