Characteristics

Plants 100-450 mm high. Corm subglobose, obliquely flattened toward base with crescent-shaped basal ridge ± as wide as corm, 6-15 mm diam., tunics splitting into fine parallel fibrils along ridge. Stem aerial, exserted (20-)60-150 mm, sometimes branching above. Leaves 3 or 4, lower 2 basal, the second usually sheathing the stem, terete and narrowly 6-to 8-grooved, 1-2 mm diam. Peduncles semiterete, 30-70 mm long, deflexed and widely spreading in fruit and 50-90 mm long; outer bracts green and thin-textured with narrow or well-developed, finely brown-speckled membranous margins and sometimes submembranous tips, 18-25(-30) mm long, inner bracts with very broad, brown-flecked or-speckled membranous margins and narrow green centre. Flowers white with golden-yellow cup or entirely golden-yellow, sometimes paler toward tips, outer tepals greenish or brown-striped on reverse, sweetly scented; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 3-5 mm long; tepals 15-25 long, outer oblanceolate, ± 7 mm wide, inner obovate-spathulate, ± 9 mm wide. Filaments 4-6 mm long, pilose basally; anthers 6-8 mm long, pale yellow. Style dividing at or just beyond anther apices, branches 1-2 mm long, divided for half their length. Capsules subglobose, 5-8 mm long.

Basal leaves 2, terete, erect, 300-500 x 1-2 mm, with 6-8 narrow grooves. Bracts greenish or reddish green, outer with narrow, inner with wide colourless or fawn membranous margins. Cormous geophyte, stem 60-250 mm tall, corm with an oblique basal ridge. Leaves 3 or 4, lowermost 2 basal, narrowly 6-8-grooved, 1-2 mm diam. Flowers yellow or white with yellow cup and lower part of tepals, tepals obovate; bracts green, outer with narrow hyaline margins, inner with wide hyaline margins; fruiting peduncles widely spreading.
