Characteristics

Plants 50-100 mm high. Corm ovoid, 7-10 mm diam., oblique with crescent-shaped basal ridge, tunics woody, split into strips comprising clusters of fibril-like teeth converging at the tips and sharply bent over ridge. Stem short, subterranean. Leaves 5 to 8, mostly spreading, terete to compressed-cylindric, narrowly 4-grooved, 1-2 mm diam. Peduncles mostly 3 to 5, angled, erect in fruit; outer bracts green, often paler and submembranous in lower half, with narrow, colourless or brown-speckled membranous margins, 10-20 mm long, closely ribbed above but striate below (± 7 veins/mm), inner bracts submembranous in lower half with wide brown-speckled membranous margins. Flowers pale pink to almost white, often with 1 or 3 darker lines in throat, with greenish yellow cup, outer tepals purple or green with purple stripes on reverse; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 2.0-3.5 mm long; tepals elliptic, 8-15 x 3-5 mm. Filaments 3-4 mm long, puberulous or pilose basally; anthers 3-4 mm long, yellow. Style dividing shortly below or at anther apices. Capsules oblong, 10-13 mm long.
