Characteristics

Plants 150-300 mm high. Corm globose, obliquely flattened toward base with crescent-shaped basal ridge ± as wide as corm, 10-15 mm diam., tunics splitting into fine parallel fibrils along ridge and forming fibrous neck above. Stem aerial, exserted 100-250 mm, cauline leaves clustered at apex. Leaves 2 or 3, lowermost 1 basal, oval in section and narrowly 4-grooved, 1.0-1.5 mm diam. Peduncles 1 to 3, rather short, up to 35 mm long, semiterete; outer bracts green with well-developed colourless or brown-speckled membranous margins and brown-flecked tips, 18-25(-30) mm long, finely striate (5 or 6 veins/mm), inner bracts with broad, brown-flecked membranous margins and narrow green centre. Flowers white to pale mauve with pale yellow cup with dark veins in cup, outer tepals streaked with maroon or dark green on reverse; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 5-6 mm long; tepals elliptic, 25-30 x 5-8 mm. Filaments inserted near base or middle of tube, 5-6 mm long, pilose basally; anthers 8-10 mm long, pale yellow. Style dividing opposite upper third of anthers, branches ± 2 mm long, divided for half their length.
