Characteristics

Plants 30-200 mm high. Corm globose, obliquely flattened with wide, fan-or crescent-shaped basal ridge wider than corm, 10-15 mm diam., tunics splitting into fine, parallel fibrils clustered into scalloped fascicles along ridge. Stem subterranean or exserted up to 150 mm. Leaves 3 to 6, lower 2 basal when stem developed, filiform, 4-grooved, 0.5-1.0 mm diam., sometimes sparsely ciliolate on rib margins. Peduncles up to 5, clustered at stem apex, semiterete, up to 30 mm long, spreading in fruit, each pair diverging at ± 90o; outer bracts green with narrow membranous margins, 10-20 mm long, striate (3 or 4 veins/mm), inner bracts with broad, brown-edged membranous margins. Flowers white to cream-coloured with yellow cup, outer tepals green or purple or irregularly blotched on reverse; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 4-5 mm long; tepals elliptic, 13-22 x 4-9 mm. Filaments 3-5 mm long, pilose toward base, yellow; anthers 4-6 mm long, pale yellow. Style dividing near anther apices, branches ± 2 mm long, divided halfway. Capsules ellipsoid, 5-8 mm long.

Flowers 18-30 mm long, cream with an orange cup, the outer segments on the backs green or purple or irregularly blotched. Perianth segments 13-22 mm long.
