Branches at first about 2 mm in diameter, glaucous, older branches woody, and main branch up to 10 mm in diameter with dark brown to blackish brown rough bark; internodes 6-15 mm long, surface smooth. Leaves subterete to trigonous, narrowing towards the base and tapering into a mucronate tip, 14-17 x 3-4 mm. surface glaucous green, minutely papillate, apex incurved, often reddish green. Flowers solitary, at the ends of branches, 50-65 mm in diameter; on pedicels 10-14 mm long. Receptacle obconical to subglobose fill mm high and 8-9 mm in diameter. Sepals 5, obtuse to subacute, almost equal in length, the inner with translucent margins, outer two triangular-ovate 7 x 5 mm. inner three 8 x 7 mm, triangular. Petals in two series, persisting long after anthesis linear-lanceolate, with age twisting and turning into a mop of curly hair, pink, 25-30 x 1 mm. apices acute. Filamentous staminodes absent; filaments in about 4 series. 2.3 mm long, anthers 0.6-0.9 mm. yellowish to cream coloured, not completely overtopping stigmas. Gynoecium surface 7 mm diam., with 5 raised obtuse sutures, minutely papillate, green, elevated up to 1 mm; nectaries narrow, surrounding ovary. Stigmas 5, ascending, triangular subulate, 1.5 mm long, arising from centre between sutures or lobes, tapering, papillate and not completely concealed by stamens. Capsule 5-locular, hygroscopic, base topshaped. 7-8 mm diam., 5-7 mm deep; top rounded, open capsule up to 8-12 mm diam.; valve wings and closing body absent, expanding keels about 2 mm long and 0.7 mm in diameter, parallel at base diverging widely, acute and incurved at apices; once opened, the capsule remains open: covering membranes erect.
