Calyx-tube 2–2·5 mm. long at anthesis, tubular, 4-gonous, somewhat constricted at the mouth, when fructiferous up to 3·5 mm. long; lobes 4, very short, almost truncate; appendages c. 1 mm. long, subulate, erect, usually incurved.
Petals 1 × 0·75 mm., subcircular, slightly emarginate at the apex, exserted 0·5 mm. beyond the calyx-tube mouth.
Stems leafy or leafless on the lower part, emitting slightly 4-winged aerial branches up to 12 cm. long.
Flowers 4-merous, subsessile, solitary, axillary; bracteoles 2, c. 1 mm. long, subulate, scarious.
Stamens 4, inserted a little below the middle of the calyx-tube, included; anthers c. 0·25 mm.
Ovary c. 1–5 mm. long, ellipsoid; style very short, slightly longer than the capitate stigma.
Capsule 4-valved, 3·5 mm. long, ellipsoid, as long as the calyx-tube.
Creeping annual herb, 40 cm. long or more.
Seeds numerous, c. 0·5 mm. long.
