Characteristics

Aerial leaves 3·5–6 × 1·5–3·5 mm., decussate or 3(4–5)-nate, sessile, oblong, obtuse or subacute at the apex, margin entire, rounded at the base, green, obscurely penninerved; submerged leaves 11 × 0·5–1 mm., usually shorter than the internodes, linear, the upper ones longer.

Calyx 3× 1·5 mm., campanulate, scarious, with a nectariferous reddish ring of free scales opposite the petals at the bottom; lobes 4, 1 × 1 mm., triangular, acute; appendages 0.
Ovary c. 1 × 0·75 mm., subglobose, shortly stipitate, 2-locular, each loculus with numerous ovules.
Flowers 4-merous, axillary, solitary, dimorphic-heterostylous; bracteoles 0·75–1 mm. long.
Petals c. 2 × 2 mm., pink, broadly ovate, rounded at the apex, ± persistent and ± clawed.
Long-styled flowers: stamens c. 1 mm. long, included; style 3 mm. long, exserted.
Short-styled flowers: stamens exserted, 3 mm. long; style 1 mm. long, included.
Stamens 4, opposite to the lobes, inserted near the middle of the calyx-tube.
Stems ascending towards the apex, rooting at the prostrate lower part.
A small straggling perennial(?) herb of variable length.
